QUALITY INDICATOR- CRIMP
what is the crimp?
fiber crimping prevents flattening and clumping of the fibers. two main types of crimp are Mechanical and Conjugate (chemical):
-
mechanical crimping - typically the lower cost crimping method resulting in a sawtooth pattern and created by heat and pressure
-
less costly but less durable as well
-
oddly, used in micro-denier fibers which are one the most expensive fibers but the use of mechanical crimp is due to the tiny size of the fiber
-
-
conjugate crimping - chemical crimping of the fiber using 2 different polymers resulting in a spiral shape
-
the more costly and more durable crimp method
